Religious Education
At Carleton House Preparatory School, Religious Education is at the heart of our curriculum and reflects our mission: “We live, love and learn with Jesus.” We are committed to nurturing pupils’ faith, spiritual development, and understanding of the world through a rich and meaningful Religious Education.
We follow the Religious Education Directory through the programme To Know You More Clearly from Nursery to Year 4. This programme places Sacred Scripture at its centre, enabling pupils to grow in knowledge, deepen their relationship with God, and develop a sense of awe and wonder.
Pupils learn through three key Ways of Knowing:
- Understand – developing knowledge and understanding of Scripture, beliefs, and traditions
- Discern – thinking critically and making thoughtful judgements about meaning and truth
- Respond – reflecting personally and considering how faith influences their lives
Learning is structured through six Knowledge Lenses:
- Hear – exploring God’s revelation through Scripture
- Believe – understanding the Church’s teachings and the Creed
- Celebrate – experiencing prayer, liturgy, and the sacraments
- Live – applying Catholic Social Teaching and moral principles
- Dialogue – engaging with other Christian traditions and worldviews
- Encounter – fostering respect and understanding of other faiths and cultures
Through this curriculum, pupils develop compassion, respect, and a strong moral foundation, alongside a growing understanding of Catholic life and tradition.
In Years 5 and 6, we follow the Come and See programme, as recommended by the Archdiocese of Liverpool. This supports pupils in exploring deeper questions about life, dignity, and purpose, while continuing to develop their knowledge of the Catholic faith and other religions.
Our Religious Education curriculum ensures that every child feels a strong sense of belonging within our caring community and is equipped with the values, understanding, and faith to flourish in the wider world.
