Live Simply Award

Carleton House Preparatory School is proud to have achieved the CAFOD LiveSimply Award, recognising our commitment to living out our faith through action.

The LiveSimply Award is an opportunity for Catholic communities — including schools, parishes and chaplaincies — to respond to Pope Francis’ invitation in Laudato Si’ to care for our common home and to stand in solidarity with those most in need.

As a school, we are committed to ensuring that these values are not only taught, but lived through the daily experiences of our pupils.

The LiveSimply award is an opportunity for Catholic communities – parishes, schools, religious orders and chaplaincies – to respond to Pope Francis’ invitation in Laudato Si’ to

What is Laudato Si’?

Laudato Si’ is an encyclical (letter) written by Pope Francis in 2015, addressed to all people.

In this document, Pope Francis reminds us that caring for the Earth and all of creation is an essential part of our moral responsibility as Christians. He calls us to:

  • Respect and protect the environment
  • Recognise the interconnectedness of all creation
  • Live simply and avoid wastefulness
  • Act in solidarity with those most in need

Laudato Si – Mackenzie-Fort Smith

What is the LiveSimply Award?

The LiveSimply Award is achieved by schools and communities who can demonstrate how they are living:

  • Simply
  • In solidarity with people in poverty
  • Sustainably with creation

At Carleton House, this approach helps our pupils to live not just more simply, but more thoughtfully — developing a deeper understandingof their role in the world.

Through this, pupils are encouraged to:

  • Make thoughtful and responsible choices
  • Care for the environment
  • Support others locally and globally

This approach is embedded across school life and helps pupils to develop a strong sense of responsibility and global awareness.

Pupil Leadership and Sustainability

Pupils play a central role in leading our LiveSimply work.

Our Environmental Ambassadors actively promote sustainability across the school. They:

  • Lead environmental initiatives
  • Encourage others to reduce waste and make sustainable choices
  • Raise awareness of caring for creation
  • Support the development of school projects

Through these leadership opportunities, pupils develop confidence, responsibility and a strong sense of stewardship for the world around them.

Our School Actions

At Carleton House, pupils are actively involved in a wide range of initiatives as part of our LiveSimply journey, including:

  • A Walk to School campaign
  • Litter picking and environmental projects
  • Planting rainwater collecting planters
  • Promoting Fairtrade awareness
  • Supporting the South Liverpool Foodbank
  • Developing our Nursery Prayer Garden

Pupils also take initiative in leading charitable actions. A recent example is a group of our Y5 children making toast to raise money for our school chosen charities.

A Lasting Commitment

Achieving the LiveSimply Award is an important milestone, but it is not the end of our journey.

We continue to:

  • Develop new initiatives
  • Strengthen pupil leadership
  • Encourage sustainable and compassionate choices
  • Build awareness of global responsibility

We recognise that this work is most powerful when it is shared. We warmly invite parents and families to support us in our LiveSimply journey — whether by engaging with school initiatives, encouraging sustainable habits at home, or sharing ideas and resources.

Together, we can build a strong, compassionate community that makes a real difference for people and the planet.
